Two new water refill stations have come to Bridport.
One resides in West Bay on the wall of the Changing Places toilet which is part of the block of toilets at West Bay long stay car park.
The other is positioned on the wall of the orange building with a bright mural at the edge of Plottingham Fields near the children’s play area.
The initiative was funded by Wessex Water’s Community Connector scheme and in the future, the water fountains will be maintained by Bridport Town Council.
There is a third water refill station in Bucky Doo Square, Bridport which has been in place for a while.
A spokesperson for Bridport Town Council said: “The purchase of the water fountains and installation was funded by Wessex Water as part of the Community Connectors project and going forwards they will be maintained by Bridport Town Council.
“As a Plastic Free Town this helps reduce the use of single use plastic bottles, and to address the litter consequences of plastic.”
Bridport achieved a plastic free status in 2021 having met the criteria set by Surfers Against Sewage for a town of its size.
As well as the new water refill stations, a number of businesses in the area have also agreed to fill up people’s water bottles.
This includes, Soulshine in South Street, Brassica Forno in East Street, Ropemakers in West Street, Baboo Gelato in West Bay, Rockburn in St Michaels, as well as Washingpool Farm Shop.
