A MAN has pleaded guilty to two cases of assault at a Weymouth shop.
Matthew Brealey, aged 38 and of Queens Road, Bridport, appeared at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, April 11.
Brealey was charged with two counts of assault by beating.
He pleaded guilty to assaulting a security guard at the Londis store on Westham Road, Weymouth, at around 5pm on January 16, 2024.
He also admitted assaulting a security guard who was working on the seafront that night and was in the shop at the time.
Ms Valera added that Brealey had three bottles of cider, two in his hands and one of which he had put in his pocket, which is why the shop security guard decided to intervene.
Brealey then went on to punch him in the shoulder, the court heard, and explained that he had put one in his pocket because he ‘could not carry them all.’
He then ‘became loud and verbally abusive’ which is when additional staff came over to assist.
Staff then refused to serve him due to being ‘drunk’.
The second security guard became involved when trying to de-escalate the situation, he was pushed by Brealey, magistrates heard, causing him to drop the bottle of wine that he was holding.
Ms Valera said: “He also pushed a member of the public who was trying to come into the store.
“He was looking for a fight, he took his bag and top off telling him he had to fight.”
The case has been adjourned until June 6 at 10am and Brealey has been released on conditional bail with the terms of not entering Londis on Westham Road, Weymouth.
