A WEST Dorset hair salon is celebrating a big win after coming out a cut above the rest.
The Salon in Charmouth has been named as the Bridport and Lyme Regis News Hair Salon of the Year.
We invited readers to nominate their favourite and then vote for the winner from a shortlist - and The Salon in The Street was triumphant in the competition.
Owner Hollie Price took over the business last November after running a salon in Crewkerne.
Hollie decided to buy The Salon in Charmouth and initially began commuting from Crewkwerne every day until moving to the village.
She bought the business from Louise Thresher and explained that it has 'a real family feel' as many of Louise’s family members still work there including Louise herself, her dad David (who they refer to as ‘the legend’), her son Harry who works there as a barber and her daughter Molly, who works there as a lash technician.
Hollie said: “I have inherited incredible staff; we like to make people look and feel fabulous and I think that it’s our wealth of knowledge and experience that keep clients coming back and got them voting for us.
“We are delighted to have won, it’s a community here and a great community to be part of. We have clients from everywhere and as far as places like Exeter. It’s nice to have such a wide range of clients.”
The Salon is set for a huge rebrand and refit which will take place over the next couple of weeks in preparation for June as it becomes ‘Crown and Mane.’
Hollie started her career 24 years ago at a Bridport salon because of her passion for all things creative.
She said: “I just wanted to do something creative because I am a very creative person. I have a massive passion for it, it’s my life. It’s everything.
“I have won awards myself and I am a curl specialist - I’m currently doing a curl degree.”
The hairdresser explained that her favourite thing about her job is educating.
She said: “I love educating my staff and clients and that’s also why I love curly hair.”
With the cost-of-living crisis impacting businesses at the moment, Hollie revealed that it is taking a toll on her salon.
She said: “It’s impacted us massively with our energy bills and individually, however, everybody still wants to have that luxury; they want to feel amazing and treat themselves.”
The Salon has been presented with a framed certificate for its achievement which will be proudly displayed on the wall.
