Palmers Brewery has confirmed a 'period of closure' at a Bridport pub.
The Bridport News reported yesterday that The George on South Street had shut suddenly.
A sign appeared in the window of the pub over the weekend telling customers it is closed until further notice.
It thanks customers for their support over the past year.
The George was being run by the Collyns family, who previously ran the Pilot Boat in Lyme Regis.
The family, who have years of hospitality experience, relaunched the Bridport Arms around the same time they took on The George in early 2023.
They will continue to trade at the Bridport Arms.
Jim Jones, Palmers tenanted trade director, said: “Robin and Angela Collyns have held the George Hotel in South Street during a challenging time for the industry and built a strong reputation for great food and overall hospitality that we are pleased will continue as they focus efforts on the Bridport Arms and the summer season ahead.
"Whilst The George has been handed back to us earlier than planned, leaving a period of closure ahead, it will re-open again once another first class operator is found.
"Recruitment is ongoing."
The White Lion
The News also asked Palmers about The White Lion, which was shut over the weekend.
Mr Jones added: "The White Lion in Bridport was closed at the weekend due to some short term challenges, and will be reopening as normal this week.”
