An amateur dramatic group has found it ‘tough to put on’ shows since the pandemic - but is pleased to have announced a new pantomime.
The Burton Bradstock Players are set to perform ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ at the village hall on Thursday February 15, Friday February 16 and Saturday February 17.
The group has been working hard to put the panto on since August of last year and the show’s producer Carole Houghton is looking forward to it after overcoming several hurdles.
She said: “It was tough for us to put on.
“It’s been hard work to get people to get out of their doors and associate with other people, not just in panto, but the audience to come out and be with each other.
“It’s been an uphill fight on both scores really, the main aim now is now to finally put the show on.”
She added: “It doesn’t go without its up and downs, but we have overcome some last minute hitches and we have rallied.
“We have our team, and it has worked, and the costumes are ready, and we just want to put it on.
“I’ve got all the costumes in my house at the moment, I can’t move.
“It has taken over but it will be fab fun.”
Two nights have already sold out, and Carole has been blown away with the support of the local community, including that of many businesses in the area.
She added: “We have finally done it.
“We are a small village but we have managed to regain it and found a new team of people and are embracing it and have shown that it can work.
“The businesses around here have supported us really well with a lot of support.
“They have provided us with raffle prizes and items like free rope, sweets and cakes and things we needed like materials.
“We have had some financial donations as well which is marvellous support and pubs have given us free Sunday lunches and meals as prizes for the raffle.”
The panto is being directed by Alan Hooley and many other local people, including five children, will be taking part in the ‘unusual’ show.
Whilst it tells the story of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' there will be plenty of twists on the original tale.
It will include a man-mad Dame, good and bad fairies, a wacky professor, a silly pair of twerps, Frankenstein’s Monster, a pantomime cow, a village policeman, and a band put together by local musicians.
Carole continued: “It’s an unusual thing, it is very different, and it is something good to get the community out.
“I’m exhausted. I have been working on it since August but it is really big for us.”
