Residents have been advised to avoid a 'really dangerous' village road due to flood and ice risk.

Recent heavy rainfall has resulted in water sitting on Village Road between Bradpole and Loders.

It was reported that a car crashed as a result of the icy road. 

Posting on its Facebook page, Loders Parish Council warned people to 'be mindful of ice on the road'.

Members of the public have since reported slippery road surfaces with Loders Parish Council warning of the likelihood of ice on the road due to freezing temperatures forecast this week.

When approached for comment, Loders Parish Council said it was unable to determine whether the floodwater was caused by a drain blockage or was due to the volume of water but that it was reported as 'high priority' to Dorset Council on Monday morning.

In response to the parish council’s warning on Facebook, safety concerns have been raised by members of the public who have driven through the area.

One Facebook user commented on Monday: “It was really dangerous this morning, amazed there hasn’t been a crash, needs urgent fixing.

"Dorset Council supposedly class floods across the road as urgent so hopefully it’s being fixed today before the same happens overnight!"

Another user reported a car crash that occurred due to the slippery conditions: “Ade slid into the bank on the ice knocked his bumper off. Luckily, he was ok.”

According to some members of the public, the conditions on the road are still hazardous with no sign of improvement.

"It's been like it since last Thursday. Has not cleared at all," one comment read. 

A spokesperson from Dorset Council said: “We're putting out additional signage to warn about the flood and ice risk here. Highways officers are also looking to if there's anything else we can do to help alleviate the problem.

“In the meantime, we urge local motorists to avoid this section of the road if possible until the weather improves and take care while driving in icy conditions.”
