The National Trust is looking for new volunteers at their historic properties and locations in West Dorset.
The team is looking for House Experience volunteers who will welcome visitors at Hardy’s Cottage, and Max Gate, which were the homes of famous Dorset author and poet Thomas Hardy.
They will also greet people at Clouds Hill, which was the rural retreat of T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia).
For those who would prefer working in the outdoors, the National Trust is also seeking welcome volunteers at Hardy Monument and Hive Beach. The monument to Vice-Admiral Hardy will be opening regularly in 2024, giving visitors access to the viewing point at the top of the tower.
Hive Beach in Burton Bradstock is on the Jurassic Coast and welcomes thousands of visitors each year. Volunteers at the beach help to welcome visitors, manage the carpark and support on site presentation.
There will also be opportunities to volunteer at the National Trust gift shop in Lyme Regis.
Scott Welland, Operations Manager for North & West Dorset, said: “If you love meeting people, are passionate about local history or want to make some new friends, please get in touch to find out more.”
No minimum time is expected, however shifts are typically three hours in length. All volunteers receive an induction to their role, so they feel confident in what they’re being asked to do.
There will be an open morning at the regional office at the regional office at Kingston Maurward College in the Stinsford Building on Wednesday, January 24 between 10am and 1pm.
Alternatively, people can attend the open morning at the Lyme Regis shop on Wednesday, February 7, 11am to 1pm.
