A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of a firearm in Bridport.
Armed police and a police helicopter were seen in Bradpole after a man was reportedly seen with an air weapon in the area.
Dorset Police received a report of damage caused to a mobile phone during an incident involving a man and woman in St Swithins Road in Bridport at 1.21pm on Wednesday, January 3.
It was further reported that the woman was assaulted and the man was in possession of a firearm.
Officers attended and carried out searches of the area.
Police confirmed firearms officers were also called to the area and a police helicopter was deployed.
A 23-year-old man from Bridport has been arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of a firearm.
The arrested man and the woman are known to each other. The victim did not sustain any serious injuries.
Enquiries are continuing into the circumstances of the incident and an air weapon has been seized.
