A community orchestra is on the search for new members to join their weekly classes.
West Dorset Community Orchestra meets every Wednesday during term time in the Christian Fellowship Hall, East Street car park, Bridport from 6.30pm to 7.45pm.
It initially began in 2012, following the discontinuation of the Bridport music centre in 2011 to encourage musicians of all ages to experience playing in a wind band, string group or orchestra.
People of all ages and abilities are invited to come along to try their rehearsals even if it at first, they prefer to just to listen. Equally people are welcome to dust off old instruments and play during the first rehearsal as well. Four free rehearsals will be offered to new members as trial sessions with refreshments also available at the start.
The orchestra perform a range of music such as film scores, well known classics and underrated pieces.
Concerts are also performed twice a year, one in summer and during the festive period, usually partnering with Bridport-based community choir ‘Local Vocals’ at St John’s Church, West Bay.
Rehearsals begin on January 10 and this year, the team will be joined by a new conductor, Jonathan Jevons.
