FLOODING closed the B3157 Jurassic Coast Road in Burton Bradstock on Monday.
The road was closed at around 3.30pm after water levels rose and cars broke down whilst trying to pass through the floodwater.
Christopher Peacock from Burton Bradstock Cars said: “It just came out of nowhere. One moment it was well and then it was coming through the park. The river bank must have burst and caused it to come onto the road.
“It is still quite bad the police have shut the road. We have two or three cars that have tried to get through and they have broken down and are probably written off.
“It has gone down a bit but it is still quite high. In some places, I would say it might be half, even a full meter deep.
“It is getting dark now and the police are trying to stop people driving through.
“We could be stuck here all night. We have one guy who lives in Axminster who is staying over tonight because it's too dangerous to drive.
“I would like to thank the community for being so supportive and everyone who has phoned in to check on us.”
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "At 3.32pm on Monday, December 4, Dorset Police received a report of flooding on Cliff Road near the Burton Bradstock Cars and the Texaco garages.
"The road is currently closed between Swyre and Bridport. The Highways Agency is currently dealing with this incident."
