A village road was turned into a "raging, muddy and debris-filled river" by overnight flooding.

Seahill Lane between Chideock and Seatown was flooded to a depth of 12 inches after heavy rainfall hit the villages.

Chideock resident Stuart Higgins said: "The road leading down to the Anchor pub at Seatown was turned into a raging muddy and debris-filled river by the overnight flooding.

"Seahill Lane was flooded to a depth of at least 12 inches as drains could not cope with the volume of water and a manhole cover was lifted.

"Residents have lodged complaints with Dorset Council about the ‘inadequate drainage’ system but nothing has been done.

"Heavy machinery from the nearby leisure park was used to shift some of the debris which included stones and large rocks and tree branches and residents helped move the stones from the middle of the road by hand.

"Although the flood had receded by early morning another massive downpour sent more water cascading down from the fields, halting traffic and blocking the road."
