A community night of glitz and glamour in Bridport raised £4,000 in aid of cancer.
Two Bridport-based community groups put on a night of glitz and glamour in aid of cancer suffers.
Bridport’s Glitter Ball took place at Highlands End on Saturday, October 14, with the ‘gliterazzi’ of the town coming out to support The Living Tree and Stepping Out cancer organisations.
A reception took place with champagne followed by a dinner, before an evening of music and dancing went deep into the night.
Generous donors, including individuals and businesses, helped on the evening and offered gifts resulting in a £4000 profit to be shared amongst the two groups.
Steph Crabb from The Living Tree, whose inspiration and organisation it was, said: “The Bridport community never ceases to amaze, the overwhelming gestures of good will & support from local businesses, friends and individuals during these difficult times, really is incredible, we had a wonderful evening, raised a fantastic amount & we thank you all. The corks were well and truly popping.”
The Living Tree offer a drop-in service to people affected by cancer on Friday afternoons between 2.00-4.00pm at Friends Meeting House on South Street.
A cup of tea can be had whilst a speaker talks to the group before a more open chat takes place where people can share their experiences and thoughts. They also have an allotment where people can meet once a week outdoors to have fun and grow fruit and vegetables.
Stepping Out offers its members group exercise and a wellbeing scheme to aid in their recovery during and after a cancer diagnosis.
Classes are designed and delivered by qualified exercise and cancer rehabilitation instructors, with the aim to improve strength, flexibility, balance, overall fitness and general wellbeing.
Other classes are delivered by specialist instructors in pilates, relaxation and meditation, Nordic walking and tripudio movement systems.
Both The Living Tree and Stepping out reach out to those touched by cancer, whether sufferers or those close to them and offer a multitude of opportunities for support. You can learn more from their websites at www.thelivingtree.org and www.steppingoutbridport.co.uk.
