Month-long roadworks that will affect a major route in Bridport will have a 'massive' impact, it is feared.
There'll also be a restriction in place to prevent parking along the affected stretch of road.
The works by National Grid are due to start next week and last until mid-November.
Trish, who owns and lives above Colours Hair Studio, says her business will be ‘massively affected’ due to customers needing to park to get to appointments.
She said: “It is a problem because you can’t just park outside your home. It’s a major issue for disabled people and older people - what do you do when people physically can’t park.
“You also get people being late all the time, it does impact the business. I just cross my fingers that they are going to do little bits at a time.”
It is yet another disruption along the main road and whilst Trish admits that the work is necessary, she says they will just have to ‘struggle through’.
The work will also see access to residents’ properties restricted due to National Grid needing to excavate across the entrances to some properties.
Mark, who lives in the middle of the area affected, is worried about where he will be able to park his family's two cars, and the chaos it will cause.
He said: “They have to do it, but it is just awful for us as we have nowhere to park.
“You can go park in Lidl but they will get annoyed as they’ll only have half a car park, but where else is there to go, we have no choice really.
“Traffic wise, with the school runs it’s going to be a nightmare.”
Mark also pointed out that since living on the road for the last three years, there have been roadworks at least two or three times a year.
A member of staff at Moores Biscuits added that 'it would be hard to tell' how the roadworks will impact them as they have their own staff parking and deliveries come in from both directions.
National Grid is undertaking essential works to the electricity network as improvements are required that should see a better service for the area.
The work on St Andrew's Road is part of a larger scale project that started on the September 25 across Knightstone Rise, St Andrew's Well, St Andrew's Gardens and St Andrew's Industrial Estate.
No advanced warning signs have yet been placed on the road by National Grid, although, residents and business received a letter on October 10 informing them of the works.
A spokesperson for National Grid, said: “From 23 October until 17 November, there will be temporary traffic lights on St Andrew’s Road and parking will be suspended between the junction of Lidl and the junction of St Andrew’s Trading Estate.
“This is necessary so we can replace low and high voltage underground cables which will make electricity supplies for customers more reliable and robust, and also enable the connection of low carbon technologies such as electric vehicle chargers and heat pumps.
“We apologise for any disruption that will be caused while this essential work is carried out.”
Dorset Council says it will be placing parking boards on site from today - Thursday, October 19 - to notify people that parking will be restricted from October 23.
