A woman was rescued after injuring herself on a beach.

The woman was 'unable to move' after twisting her knee while walking on uneven ground on the coast at Charmouth.

Paramedics were alerted to treat the casualty and coastguards were called to help get her off West Beach. It is understood the tide was starting to come in so rescuers had to act quickly.

Onlooker Bob Hamblett said: "I had heard that a woman had hurt herself.

"I saw three coastguard personnel in high viz jackets walking along Charmouth beach 200 metres towards Lyme Regis.

"With the tide beginning to come in they went back to her with colleagues and a stretcher. They returned along the wet sand to the car park where the woman was taken to her car."

Bridport and Lyme Regis News:

The Maritime & Coastguard Agency said a call was received at just after 12.10pm on Friday.

A spokesperson said: "South Western Ambulance Service and Lyme Regis and West Bay Coastguard Rescue Teams were called out after someone on the beach had twisted their knee and was unable to move.

"Lyme Regis Coastguard Rescue Team carried her off the beach where – thankfully – she was able to make her own way home without further assistance."
