An artist from Bridport has won Best in Show at an international art competition.
Duncan Park was crowned the winner at the awards night at the Art Unlimited International Art Competition, held at the Arts Club Restaurant in Bridport on Friday, September 15.
Mr Park’s sculpture of a horse head, made from Portland stone and titled Horse in Motion, picked up the Norrsken Award for Best in Show ahead of 458 other entries from around the world, as far afield as Germany, Macau and Azerbaijan.
Winning the award gives Mr Park £2,500 in prize money, as well as a two-week solo exhibition in the Art Unlimited Gallery in Bridport.
The judges; Jussi Pylkkänen, Global President of Christie’s Auction House, Lady Victoria Conran, Pippa Walker, Lecturer on Foundation Diploma and Degree in Art and Design at Weymouth College and Richard Vine, Head of Art at Woodroffe School, Lyme Regis were impressed with Horse in Motion which they felt stood out from the high calibre of 89 Shortlisted pieces of work.
Over 100 artists, judges, sponsors, and guests gathered to hear Howard Flanagan, owner of Art Unlimited announce that the Competition hit its target to raise £2,500 for a Bursary which will be awarded to a young local aspiring artist to go to Art College or study Art at University who could otherwise not afford it.
The other prize winners were awarded £300 each, and are as follows:
Furleigh Estate Award for Best Creative Piece was won by Sally Derrick for her decorative mobile metal work entitled 'If our life giver turns into a Killer then we would have done the turning'.
