A DORSET man is exhibiting his artworks inspired by coastal landscapes in Eype.
Richard Corbett from South Perrott is displaying his works titled ‘By The Sea’ at Eype Centre for the Arts on Mount Lane until Saturday, August 19 daily between 11am and 5pm.
Mr Corbett used to live in Suffolk and in 2002 began visiting Cornish and Welsh coasts where he was inspired to paint using oil paints nearby the artists who work there.
The artist said: “I became fascinated by the abstract landscape I could create by printing a piece of driftwood. This “Inscape” became a key aspect of my work from then on.”
He added: “When I moved to West Dorset in 2021, the most exciting thing for me was knowing I will not be far from the sea.
“I am happiest when I am by the sea. That sense of space ensnares me physically and emotionally- some would say there is a spiritual connection.
“In quite a short time I also learned to love the local landscape and how it is affected it. I have found my favourite spots and one of them is Eype Beach, a place I first visited on a prep school camp in 1977.
“I love the anticipation of driving down there and the flash of light as I pull into the car park. I also love the glow and sense of calm as I drive home after a day by the sea.”
