A walking football team held a charity tournament to honour their friend and founder who died last year.
Bridport Old Boys walking football team held a five-a-side mini-tournament at St. Mary’s Field in honour of their friend, founder member Stuart Broom, who died last December.
The competition managed to raise £140 for a cancer research cause.
In the relentless pouring rain, 20 of the 25 usual team members played against each other in four teams.
There were lots of goals and as usual, the games were played in a friendly spirit.
The eventual winners were Mark Vichion, Ray Sheehan, Steve Meek, Brian Smith and Neil Hammond.
Event organiser Kevin Moys thanked players - who each donated five pounds - for turning out.
There was added money raised from the number of goals scored - a pound per goal - which will go to Pancreatic Cancer Research.
“Stuart was a founder member when we started and his sudden death last winter - he was hoping to have a knee operation to enable him to continue playing - was a shock and a loss to us all,” said club Chairman Joe Hackett.
For anyone wanting to take part in walking football, there is currently a waiting list for new members, contact Joe Hackett at joe@thehacketts.uk for more information.
