A Bridport man has raised more than £1000 for charity following his father’s recent cancer diagnosis.
Steve Bowditch took part in the Macmillan Dorset bike ride with a group of friends to raise funds for the charity that have been vital in supporting his father in his time of need.
The 38-year-old said: “At Christmas my dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer and it’s inoperable.
“The Macmillan team have been amazing in supporting him and I felt like I wanted to give something back.
“My dad has always been a role model to me.”
Six of Steve’s friends signed up to join him for the challenge and he described their support as ‘quite overwhelming.’
“I am so thankful to all of my friends for signing up with me.”
The cycle went ‘really well’ for the group and at the time of publication Steve has raised £1,115 out of a £380 target via a just giving page.
Steve joked that when they arrived there ‘was a load of professional racers and then there was us.’
He added: “Macmillan have been amazing financially and at giving advice.”
Steve explained that ‘having that voice at the end of the phone’ was such an essential part of what made the charity so amazing when it came to his dad’s care.
He said: “I just want to say thank you.”
