A Dorset school has received special recognition by UNICEF.
Burton Bradstock Church of England Primary School has been recognised by UNICEF as a Silver: Rights Aware School.
The school was awarded this title following an assessment by one of the charity’s professional advisers who questioned the children on their rights and what it was like to be a pupil.
Headteacher Adam Gough said: “This is recognition of all the work put in by staff, pupils and the ‘Friends’ who have supported us throughout.
“We have just under 100 pupils aged three to 11 and children’s rights are embedded from the moment they start.
“UNICEF’s professional adviser Jilly Hillier was impressed with the commitment of the school and could see how the Rights Respecting Schools Award links to out values and ethos.”
Burton Bradstock is part of the Initio Learning Trust.
Liz West, Chief Executive Officer of Initio Learning Trust, said: “It’s great to see another one of our schools recognised by UNICEF.
“It is not just a box-ticking exercise and takes a great deal of work and commitment to gain these recognitions.”
UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and their rights, and more than 4,500 schools in the UK are working on the Rights Respecting Schools Award which shows the good progress towards embedding children’s rights in policy, practice and ethos,
