A hiker suffered a suspected dislocated knee whilst walking at the weekend.

Lyme Regis Coastguard Rescue was among the teams called to the stricken person, who had injured themselves at Seven Rock Point at the western end of Monmouth Beach in east Devon just before 5pm on Saturday, May 27.

The Dorset crew - along with the Lyme RNLI lifeboat and Beer Coastguard - helped rescue the walker and their family to Lyme harbour.

Coastguard teams stood down after the family made their own way to hospital for emergency crews to deal with the injured knee.

"Tasked with Beer Coastguard and Lyme Regis RNLI to a walker with suspected dislocated knee at Pinhay Warren," Lyme Regis Coastguard Rescue said.

"Lifeboat extracted the casualty and family to the harbour. Family made own way to hospital."

Lyme Regis Lifeboat added: "On Saturday the lifeboat crew went to the aid of a man with a leg injury at Seven Rock Point at the western end of Monmouth Beach.

"Because of rocks the lifeboat crew used the inflatable Xboat – a large rowing dinghy- to reach the injured man and then towed the dinghy back to Lyme Regis harbour.

"The crew had first taken two other people - who had been with the casualty- to the harbour and then brought the X-boat to the scene so that they could safely transport the man to the lifeboat station. He was then taken to hospital by relatives."

Lyme Regis Lifeboat said it has now been called to 19 emergencies so far this year, including rescuing a semi-conscious woman from a Devon beach on Sunday.
