CHRIS Herbst is looking forward to a summer of recruitment at Bridport as the Bees look to build on their best season for four years.

Herbst instigated a turnaround in fortunes at St Mary’s Field which saw the Bees slip down from the Western League Premier Division to the South West Peninsula League Premier East.

Bridport found themselves bottom under previous boss Edgar Marcu but Herbst has transformed the club’s results, bringing in several impressive signings to boot en route to finishing 11th.

Now he is focused on consolidating with the existing squad and bolstering the squad depth in both the first team and reserves, in partnership with reserve boss Adam Herring.

Speaking to the Bridport News, Herbst said: “I’m chasing three or four. Some are still playing so I can’t name names.

“I just want to add four or five, possibly six. Four will be for the first team and two will be on the cusp of the firsts, making the reserves stronger.

“Hopefully me and Herring can bang our heads together and get a couple more in for the reserves as well, just to make both teams very strong.

“With us, our squad depth has probably killed us at times and we’ve lost games. When I look at the bench I need more quality.

“You need to add quality to the starting XI we’ve got now, so I’m always on the lookout for good players.

“The hard work starts now for sure. I’ll sit down with Dougal (Adrian Scadding, chairman) and get some things in place, so it’s positive.

“Everything I’m chasing I’m getting positive (vibes) from and I don’t think we’re losing anyone, maybe one. Everyone else is committed.”

Jack Wright is the player in question, with Dorchester Town rumoured to be interested.

Bridport are also expected to strengthen their coaching team this summer and hope to establish links with one of the bigger clubs in Dorset.
