FORMER Bridport boss Edgar Marcu believes the difficulty of obtaining his UEFA B licence made him feel like he was starting from square one.
Romanian coach Marcu, who left Bridport earlier this season after overseeing just seven games with the Bees, spoke of the intensity of the course.
Marcu undertook his course at Dragon Park, Wales, following in the footsteps of current Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and former Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira.
After completing the qualification, Marcu explained how the course was a steep learning curve for him.

He told the Bridport News: “It gave me a new picture with regards to football.
“For instance, we had to watch Manchester City and Liverpool, regarding the tactics, why the full-back was going into the middle part of the pitch to release players from wide areas.
“It was very different and it puts you in an international place where you can apply all over the world, like professional clubs.
“Before going into the UEFA B I didn’t think I was going to learn but when I started I realised I was a rookie!
“I’d been in contact with some clubs after leaving Bridport but I wanted to focus on getting my UEFA B licence.
“There was an assessment where you had to deliver sessions and score at least 61 out of 100.
“I had the same tutor as Mikel Arteta, so imagine the pressure and the way you had to deliver the session. It’s just different.”
Marcu admitted he would have approached the Bridport job differently had he obtained his UEFA B prior to joining the Bees.
“I used to be very confident before Bridport,” he admitted. “But now if I was to go back I would do everything completely differently.
“I’ve done some work in Romania and I’ve made an application to FC Nuremburg in Germany, with the under-18s.
“I don’t have a target, it’s just wherever an opportunity will appear. I will take it, but it will have to be at a professional club.
“You have to look forward and now I have the qualification. I do feel a very complete coach compared to when I was at Bridport.
“It will happen. Put it this way, with a UEFA B licence you can go in any Premier League academy easily. That’s the requirement.
“The Manchester City academy, I can go if they will take me!”
