Two people have been injured in a lorry crash on the A35.

Emergency services were called to the west of the county in the early hours of this morning.

A crash involving two lorries was reported near the Askerswell turn-off, just outside Bridport, shortly before 3.15am.

Police, fire and ambulance services rushed to the scene and the road was closed in both directions between Bridport and Dorchester.

The fire service warned the road would likely remain closed for 'some time.'

It remained shut until around 8.40am this morning while emergency services dealt with the incident and arranged for the lorries to be recovered.

It led to heavy rush hour traffic - particularly around the Esso roundabout and Sea Road North, Bridport, and Monkeys Jump roundabout, Dorchester, as motorists diverted.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "Two people were treated by the ambulance service for injuries that are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.

"Road closures were put in place as emergency services responded to the incident and recovery was arranged."
