An event held to discuss the costs and benefits of solar energy has been declared 'a success'.

Local non-profit group Transition Town Bridport (TTB) held a meeting at the WI Hall in Bridport which saw more than 70 people attend and another 40 people writing to register their interest.

Members of TTB have negotiated a discounted price for the installation of solar panels and batteries.

As a result the installer Robin Goodfellow has had more than 30 requests for a quote to date.

Robin and TTB’s Sam Wilberforce explained the benefits and economies of solar PV and Mr Goodfellow outlined the options available – a battery system, electric car charger and immersion heater divertors.

Sam said: "Clearly high fuel prices, and the fact that panels are becoming more efficient and cheaper make them an attractive proposition.

"If electricity prices go up to 50p/unit in April, the payback period is 5 years and 5.4 years for a 3.7kW system without or with battery."
