PORTLAND UNITED RESERVES 2

BRIDPORT Reserves lost their unbeaten home record under boss Adam Herring as Josh Camp’s double handed Portland United Reserves a 2-0 win at St Mary’s Field.

Full of chances, this Jewson Dorset Premier League derby lived up to the billing as the Blues leapfrogged the Bees into 13th, while Bridport slipped to 16th.

Bridport were lucky not to trail at the break as a Portland goal was chalked off with the final touch coming from an offside player.

Herring’s men rallied after the break and saw Callum Arnold hit the post, the striker later working keeper Brad Smith into a fine low save.

Dom McAllister was also denied by Smith, his header from six yards magnificently turned away, before the Blues made a goalline clearance.

Their efforts proved crucial as Camp notched a double to seal the points, his first a brilliant effort to punish the Bees.

Herring told the Bridport News: “First half, Portland were the better team and we were pretty lucky to go in at 0-0.

“Second half we had four really good chances, so I would’ve said on reflection a draw would’ve been a fair result.”

Bridport visit Merley on Saturday (3pm), with the Bees in advanced talks to sign a third goalkeeper.

Bees: Wootton, Strelley, Mamanta, Ja Scadding, Hyett, A Steele (Allen), McAllister, Handyside (C Middleton), Brook (Coombs), Arnold, Morgan. Sub not used: Day.
