A LITTER pick at West Bay last weekend saw an impressive turn-out, with all ages from toddlers to the elderly grabbing their pickers and bin bags and heading out in search of rubbish.
The incredible 47.8 kilos collected included everything from sweet wrappers to plastic barrels, as the tireless volunteers scoured the sand and clambered over the rocky West Beach.
Participant Debbie Legge said: "We picked up a lot of cigarette ends, but there was also bigger stuff like plastic trays and bits of rope.”
Donations that came in, both from participants and from passers-by, will go towards helping Ukrainian families forced from their country by the Russian invasion.
Connie Burchell, who also took part in the litter pick, said: “The donations we receive for this event will go towards things like bus passes, phone repairs, bike equipment and refurbished laptops.
"These will help make their lives more bearable, so they can enjoy and contribute to life in Bridport.”
Organiser Nick Tait said donations are still being collected for a few more days via JustGiving - just follow the link on the Bridport Ukrainian Hardship Fund Facebook page.
There will also be collection tins out and about in the town for a few more days in Bridport Tourist Information Centre, Fruits of the Earth (Victoria Grove), Waste Not Want Not (South Street).
The West Bay beach cleans are held on the third Sunday of each month, see the Clean Jurassic Coast Facebook page for more details.
