WIMBORNE TOWN RESERVES 8

BRIDPORT RESERVES 0

BRIDPORT Reserves crashed to an 8-0 hammering at Wimborne Town Reserves in the Jewson Dorset Premier League.

Adam Herring’s Bees only fielded a 12-man squad for the long trip to New Cuthbury, but acquitted themselves well for the opening 30 minutes.

Dom McAllister had a lob cleared off the line and Callum Arnold also missed a presentable chance as the Bees held their own.

However, Brad Waters netted a free-kick from the edge of the box to put the Magpies ahead before adding a second from a one-on-one chance.

Bridport went down to ten men early in the second half when Dane James was shown a straight red for a comment made to a linesman.

The Bees conceded three goals in five minutes when Luke Sheehy, Liam Nixon with a delicious chip and Heath Thornton all got on the scoresheet.

Wimborne sub Sam Hansford scored three minutes after coming on and the rout was completed when Nixon and Sheehy completed their braces late on.

Herring told the Bridport News: “There’s a gulf between the teams at the top and bottom but that’s no excuse to get a hiding.

“We were against a very good side, well-drilled and well-coached.”

Herring now turns his attention to a home game with Swanage on Saturday (2pm).

He added: “Swanage and Portland are two teams down near us at the bottom of the table.

“We’ve done well against teams around us so that’s what we need to aim for.”

Bridport are looking at bringing in new signings for their first team and reserves, but Herring has his normal squad to choose from this weekend.

Bees: Wootton, James, Mansley, Ja Scadding, A Steele (Burwood 65), Wellman, McAllister, Arnold, Day, Mann, Morgan.
