A WEST Dorset A-road was closed for nearly two hours after a car struck a teenage pedestrian before crashing into a house.

Dorset Police said it was called to an address on the A356 in South Perrott at about 1.15pm on Sunday, February 5.

The driver of a car, who was out of the vehicle when emergency crews arrived, had collided with a pedestrian, a male teenager, in the village before hitting a house.

The person who was hit by the vehicle was taken to Yeovil District Hospital with serious injuries, while the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance was also present at the scene along with the police and fire service.

The A356 - a major route connecting west Dorset with Dorchester - was closed until about 3pm to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.

The Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said that it sent three crews from Beaminster, Yeovil and Martock to the crash.

"We were called to the A356 through South Perrott at 1.18pm on Sunday after a car collided with a building," the fire service said.

"Firefighters attended from Beaminster, Yeovil and Martock; the driver was out of the vehicle when emergency services arrived, so crews made the scene safe and established a safety cordon. Our stop was at 3.33pm."

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 1.11pm on Sunday, February 5 to an incident in the South Perrott area.

"We sent a double-crewed land ambulance, an operations officer and an air ambulance.

"We conveyed one patient to Yeovil District Hospital by land ambulance.”
