A landslip has taken place on a west Dorset beach.

Pictures show a substantial amount of mud and rocks which have collapsed onto East Cliff Beach in Lyme Regis.

Images were taken of the landslip on Thursday, with one observer describing it as 'massive'.

A spokesperson from Dorset Council said: "Dorset Council is aware of the recent landslip at East Cliff Beach in Lyme Regis.

"Officers have visited the site recently and are continuing to monitor the situation to determine whether clearance is necessary.

WATCH: The moment huge rockfall crashes on to West Bay beach

"In the meantime, while it does not appear to pose an immediate danger, we strongly recommend that the public stays clear of the debris."

This comes just weeks after a huge rockfall took place on East Beach in West Bay.

The Jurassic Coast in west Dorset has seen an increased number of rockfalls in recent times.

Dorset Council has issued this advice on how people can enjoy the unpredictable coastline safely:

  • Stay away from the edge of the cliff top - admire the view from a safe distance
  • Stay away from the base of cliffs: rock falls and landslides can happen at any time. If you are under a rock fall, the likelihood is you will die
  • Pay attention to warning signs – they are there for your safety
  • Check tide times before you set off to avoid being cut off by incoming tides
  • Keep dogs on leads near the cliff edge
