SHERBORNE TOWN RES 1

BRIDPORT RESERVES 7

BRIDPORT Reserves scored seven goals in a game for the second time this season with a resounding 7-1 win at Sherborne Town Reserves in the Jewson Dorset Premier League.

Adam Herring’s men beat his former club Beaminster 7-0 in the Dorset Senior Trophy in November but this was by far their biggest league win of the season.

Centre-half Dan Baggs grabbed a brace and there were also goals for Fynley Morgan, Toby Mann, Harry Burwood and Riley Weedon.

There was even time for coach Sam Day to come off the bench and score late on, with the Zebras conceding six second-half goals despite Jacob Manley’s first-half equaliser.

Bridport’s cause was also aided by a red card for Jamie Jarman as the Bees inflicted a day to forget upon their opponents.

It proved the perfect response to a 5-1 defeat by Dorchester Sports on New Year’s Eve.

Speaking to the Bridport and Lyme Regis News, Herring said: “To be honest, we seemed to be shipping quite a few goals.

“We actually changed formation and set up a lot more defensively to try and be more difficult to defeat and be a lot stronger at the back.

“We went 1-0 up early but they equalised after half an hour, which was fairly disappointing.

“We were playing against a strong wind in the first half so to go in at 1-1 was obviously OK.

“Then second half we scored a couple of early goals and went on from there.”

He added: “I’m still learning the division. There’s that top five or six teams and then six or seven down the bottom.

“We’ve come to realise that we need to be harder to beat and play against, and get better results against the bottom sides.”

Weather permitting, Bridport will host Hamworthy United Reserves at St Mary’s Field on Saturday (2pm).

Herring said: “The forecast doesn’t look great, so we’re not holding out for much luck.

“It would be good if it was on because we want to press on and they’re one of the teams that’s at the top.

“It will be interesting to see if we learn from our mistakes in the Dorchester game and see if we can get a result in this one.”

Harry Burwood and Harley Brook (hip) are set to miss out.

Bees: Wootton, Elliott (Strelley 55), Baggs, Radivojsa, Mansley, Ja Scadding, Weedon (Kirkbride 65), Burwood, Morgan, Arnold, Mann (Day 80).
