WITH temperatures looking to drop significantly next week, some experts are saying there could be a chance of snow in Dorset.

A period of very cold weather is due to begin in the middle of the week and it could bring snow with it.

Dorset weather enthusiast Dorset Snow, gave a forecast for this weekend and the coming week.

He said: “A dry, but chilly weekend to come. Some bright spells on Saturday afternoon, but mostly cloudy on Sunday. Moderate north easterly winds will make it feel very cold.

“A couple of isolated showers are possible on Monday. Feeling chilly again with highs of just 6C. “On Tuesday milder and more unsettled conditions will attempt to push up from the south west.

“This may deliver some light rain to the south coast, but any milder incursion will likely be short lived.

“During the middle of next week it'll turn even colder with harsh frosts and daytime highs just above freezing. A growing risk of wintry showers too, as unstable air from the north east feeds in.

“There is a small chance of a channel low developing at some point next week. This may deliver more widespread snowfall, but confidence is very low for now.”

Expanding on the likelihood of snow towards the end of next week, Dorset Snow said: “This air will be much colder and will originate from a very unstable air mass.

“Therefore, with north easterly winds likely through much of next week, we could see Polar air upon our shores within the next 10 days.

“This all results in a growing risk of widespread wintry showers, (especially across the north and east of the country), low daytime maximums and low night time lows.

“What happens beyond next week remains somewhat a mystery, but many models keep it cold or very cold all the way up to Christmas.”

To summarise, the weather is expected to be chilly this weekend, slightly milder early next week and very cold by the middle of the week. The risk of snow is uncertain at this point.
