DORCHESTER SPORTS RES 2

BEAMINSTER 2

BEAMINSTER twice fought back to take a 2-2 draw from Dorchester Sports Reserves in their Dorset Senior League clash at Weymouth College.

This fixture pitted tenth against 11th and the contest proved to be as close as the table suggested.

Sports had the early chances and were unlucky not to go one up when Rainbows’ player-manager Neil Holt had to make a quick reaction save and punch onto the post.

Beaminster sparked into life all of a sudden and created a few chances and some dangerous free-kick opportunities.

However, Sports’ first goal came down the middle as Toby Read beat Holt for 1-0.

Beaminster scrapped away in midfield following the goal and duly got their reward when Murray Legg and Noah House exchanged passes for Legg to power a left-footed shot past the home keeper.

And in a topsy-turvy first half, Read reclaimed the lead for his side with a 20-yard bullet that gave Holt no chance before half-time.

Holt threw on ex-Bridport striker Mike Calverley for the second half at the expense of Legg and it was soon one-way traffic for the Rainbows.

Beaminster kept chipping away and eventually the equaliser came when House found himself unmarked at the back post to slam the ball home.

There was late drama as Dorchester had the ball in the net in the dying embers of the game, however it was dismissed as the officials deemed their corner to have swung out and then back in to play before the goal.

It meant that both sides shared the points to consolidate their positions in the standings.

Giving his reaction on social media, Holt said he was “pleased” with every player’s performance and thanked them for the effort in challenging conditions.

However, he noted his disappointment not to come away with all three points after a strong second-half display.
