BEAMINSTER 3

PORTLAND TOWN 2

BEAMINSTER finally grabbed their first win of the Dorset Senior League season with a 3-2 victory over Portland Town at the Memorial Ground.

On a cold afternoon, the Rainbows welcomed back Harry Angel and Lewis England to the defence, while manager Neil Holt had to roll back the years and play as goalkeeper.

But Beaminster got the good start they needed when Isaac House pounced on a loose pass before racing through and slotting the ball home.

This sparked Portland into life and they found the equaliser when England gave away a penalty and it was dispatched by Pat Byatt, sending Holt the wrong way.

Beaminster continued to push and won a dangerous free-kick which was whipped into the far post where it was met by Noah House to send the Rainbows 2-1 up at half-time.

In the second half, Portland threw everything at the hosts to get the leveller but they were stopped by a determined defence.

Beaminster now started to find holes in the Portland side and were rewarded when the ball fell to Isaac House who duly finished well for 3-1.

Beaminster’s backs were now against the wall and Holt was forced into a magnificent cat-like fingertip.

However, the resulting corner did produce a goal for James Driver to set up a tense finale that the Rainbows survived to book all three points.

Speaking to the Bridport News, Holt said: “I think they deserved the win after all the hard work they have put in during the season and I hope this is the kickstart we need for the rest of the campaign.”
