STICKLANDS had the wood on their opponents as Beaminster Secondary School hosted their first-ever primary football tournament for Year 3 and 4 pupils from the local schools.
Teams from Beaminster St Mary’s, Parrett and Axe, Sticklands, Greenford and Salway Ash battled it out to be the first winners of this new event.
The tournament was managed on the day by the Year 7 sports leaders who were using it as part of a leadership programme they are completing.
Leaders planned and led their own warm up at the start of the tournament, before officiating and organising each match.

In an exciting finale, three teams were still in with a chance of winning the tournament.
In the end, just one point separated the top three teams with Sticklands first on 10 points, Parrett and Axe in second with nine points and Salway Ash third with eight points.
At the end of each game, the Year 7 leaders selected a player of the match and at the end of the tournament the player from each team with the most selections was presented with a certificate.
Director of Student Engagement and Leadership, Andy David, said: "It was wonderful to host this event and a fantastic opportunity for our Year 7 sports leaders.
“Every game was played with such incredible spirit but more importantly respect and that was testament to the children playing and our leaders for officiating the games so well.
“We are looking forward to hosting the area netball tournament very soon."
