BRIDPORT Gig Rowing Club will take 11 club members to represent Dorset at the National County Championships in Plymouth’s Mount Batten Centre this weekend from 10.30am Saturday.
Cornish Pilot Gig racing is set to take place on Saturday and Sunday with crews representing Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Bristol, and an East team featuring competitors from Hampshire to London.
Dorset, like most counties, is not fielding crews in each and every category, nonetheless Bridport is well represented with 11 members taking part – including two coxes and nine rowers across the women’s open, women’s veterans (over-40s), women’s supervets (over-50s), men’s veterans (over-40s) and men’s supervets (over-50s).

Saturday sees crews of boys and girls competing in under-15, under-16, under-17 and under-18 categories.
Sunday features men and women going in the under-25s, open, veterans and supervets categories.
Racing takes place in the morning with presentations at lunchtime followed, in the afternoon, by ‘mix-up’ racing with counties mixing rowers across boats.
Racing starts each day at 10.30am.
Bridport’s Lucy Nightingale is coxing the men’s supervets squad in which Bridport squad member Wreford Miles is rowing.
Lead cox Jason Matthews is coxing the women’s open gig in which Nightingale will be rowing with Genna Bunker.
Clare Cameron and Donna McKenny are rowing in the women’s veterans, while Carol Marsh and Kim Sankey compete in the women’s supervets.
Matthews will also be coxing three further squad members from Bridport – Chris Bodycombe, Tony Ford and Dave Lohfink – in the men’s veterans gig.
