NEW Bridport boss Chris Herbst will be given freedom to put his own stamp on the Bees, club chairman Adrian Scadding insists.

Herbst succeeds Edgar Marcu as boss after a successful audition for the job as caretaker, becoming the seventh Bees manager since 2019.

He is widely considered to have a massive rebuild on his hands, with Bridport suffering relegation last season.

Herbst will be joined by assistant and former Bees caretaker boss Mark Lock, plus player-coach Kriss Radivojsa and physio Mark Tozer.

The Bees are currently 19th and last in the South West Peninsula League Premier East, but have only lost once in Herbst's four games as interim manager.

Herbst was the popular choice for the job among players and fans, and Scadding is looking to cash in by attracting the best talent in the area to St Mary's Field.

He told The Bridport News: "He's popular and that's what we want, to attract more local players again, which I think he will do.

"He's got a very big job on his hands. I was talking to him and I said that he's got free rein to do it all now, so get on with it!

"I know he will, because he's passionate."

Scadding revealed Bridport will also support Herbst with his managerial future.

"Us as a club are going to help him, put him through some more coaching badges," Scadding said.

"He wants to do the lot, so we'll help him."

The Bridport News understands Herbst will have no additional budget with which to bring players in.

Herbst has already convinced goalkeeper Jason Hutchings to return to the Bees from Axminster.
