THERE are just three months left until carnival day in Bridport and the fun has already begun.
Each year the Bridport News runs a competition to find a Carnival Princess, Junior Princess and two attendants for the big day.
This year 12 girls entered the Carnival Princess competition and eight girls want to be the junior princess.

Carnival Princess entries
ANYA IWASZKO, 15, goes to the Sir John Colfox School and says she likes that people are happy and friendly in Bridport. She also likes that it is both a countryside and seaside town which gives a pleasant atmosphere, but says sometimes it seems there is a limited amount to do if you are a youth. In her spare time she likes to socialise with friends and spend quality time with her family. She likes that the whole community comes together to represent Bridport at its best at carnival time. "I feel I would do a good job of representing Bridport as I am proud to call it home and I feel I would really enjoy it," she said.
KYLA HARRIS, 12, is a pupil at the Sir John Colfox School. She likes Bridport's shops and people that are nice, but thinks the council does not provide enough facilities for young people. She enjoys hanging around with her friends. She likes everything about carnival, but the carnival princess the most. "I would like to be carnival princess to represent Bridport and to make Bridport a better place," she said.
DANIELLE SEAWARD, 12, is a pupil at the Sir John Colfox School. She says everyone in Bridport is really friendly and caring and likes that it is a really happy community. She doesn't like the way teenagers seem to think the only way of being happy is to drink and take drugs. Her hobbies include acting, singing, dancing, reading, drawing, hockey and hanging out with friends. She thinks carnival is fun with a great atmosphere. "I have always wanted to be carnival princess ever since I first watched it and I think it will show people that to be happy you have to be yourself," she said.
EMILY MEECH, 12, is a pupil at Colfox School. She likes that Bridport is a nice friendly little town and says there is not much that she doesn't like about it. In her spare time she likes to dance and swim and play her flute. She says carnival is always bright and colourful and a great time for the town to get together. She wants to be princess to "join in with the magic and the fun of carnival time and to represent the town that I live in."
GEMMA GAYLARD, 13, is a pupil at Beaminster School. She likes Bridport's friendly people and the shops, but says there is not a lot for young people of her age to do. In her spare time she likes going out with her friends, swimming, tennis and going on the computer. She likes the floats and walking people at carnival. "It's great," she said. "I would be proud to be the carnival princess of my town and make my family proud of me," she added.
RHEA WEBB, 13, goes to Colfox School. She likes Bridport because she has many friends and it is full of friendly people, but says there is not much for young people to do. In her spare time she likes swimming, singing and dancing. She likes the atmosphere of carnival. "This is my third time entering, and I would love to be sitting on the float this year," she said.
LUCIE WILLDAY, 14, is a pupil at the Sir John Colfox School. She likes the friendly people in Bridport and that it is close to the sea but says there is not enough to do for teenagers.In her spare time she enjoys going out with friends in Bridport and down the Bay in summer.At carnival she likes the parade and seeing all the different floats. She said: "I want to play a part in the local community."
ELLENA PEARCE, 12, goes to the Sir John Colfox School. She likes that Bridport has lots of nice people and is a great community but says there is not much for kids except shopping. In her spare time she goes dog walking, visits West Bay and goes out with her friends. She also likes swimming , art and football. Of carnival she says it is nice to see the community coming together. "I think I'd be good at representing Bridport," she said.
EVANGELINE ABBOTT, 14, is a pupil at Beaminster School. She likes that Bridport has a good range of shops and that there is a leisure centre, but says there are no places for teenagers to hang out. She likes reading, singing, dancing and hanging out with friends in her spare time. She likes all the floats and costumes of carnival. "I want to represent Bridport and be a role model to young future carnival princesses," she said.
BETH PAULL, 13, of the Sir John Colfox School, likes that Bridport is a really friendly community and that everyone knows each other, but doesn't like it at night because there are loads of smokers and drunk people. In her spare time she enjoys reading, netball, dancing and acting and likes the atmosphere of carnival because it's happy'. "I have always wanted to be a carnival princess because I have been curious and interested to know what it feels like," she said.
LUCY PAULL, 12, is a pupil at Colfox School. She likes the beaches around Bridport and that it has many shops, market stalls and many other fun things. She says there could be more activities for young people and she doesn't like seeing drunken people and smokers in the street. She also wishing there was less traffic. In her spare time she enjoys dancing, Guides, going to the beach or town, and being with her friends and family. She likes the happy, lively atmosphere at carnival when people see the floats. "I would like to represent Bridport because I am very proud of my town," she said.
