Firefighters are celebrating the success of their annual open day.

Bridport Fire Station hosted the event for the first time since the pandemic and plenty of people came out to support the day.

The event which took place from 10am to 4pm on Saturday offered fun, entertainment, and advice for all ages.

On the day there was a wide range of activities, including road traffic collision demonstrations, fire engine tours, an abseiling display from the Coastguard, face painting and other activities for children – including a teddy bear zip line.

It didn't distract from their firefighting duties, however, with the road traffic collision pencilled in for midday being scuppered by a call-out that the crew had to attend.

Crews from Dorset Police and West Bay Coastguard Rescue Team showed support on the day and helped engage with the community about the role they play in emergency responses.

A spokesperson for Bridport Fire Station said: "What an amazing day. As soon as the doors opened people were ready to come in to have a look and to enjoy some of the activities we had and it didn’t stop all day.

"Thank you to Dorset Police and West Bay Coastguard Rescue Team for coming down and supporting us (and) to the wives and partners who helped out and, to be fair, ran the show behind the scenes.

"And a HUGE thank you from all of us Bridport Fire Station to everyone that came down to help us raise money for The Firefighters Charity - without your support it wouldn’t be possible.

"We will tot up the money and hopefully give you a total in the next few days. Early indications suggest it’s been one of the best"

The Firefighters Charity, which the open day supports, helps around 5,000 fire service personnel each year.
