BRIDPORT legend Ryan Hayter has confirmed his retirement from football.
Hayter established himself as a Bees icon with his tough-tackling, no nonsense game at centre-back and quickly became known as a leader.
Former captain Hayter gained a reputation as a player who would give everything and more for the Bees and even turned out as goalkeeper on several occasions.
His commitment was underlined by the fact that he often travelled from Southampton to turn out for the Bees.
Hayter picked up a serious ankle injury towards the end of his time at Bridport and left the club in 2018.

He embraced a new challenge in the Wessex League with Hythe & Dibden, going on to play 52 times and score three goals before calling time on his career.
Announcing his decision on social media, Hayter said: “Tried my best to get back, but the ankle has got the better of me.
“Thanks to everyone who has been part of the journey.
“Captaining my home town for so long meant everything and playing for Hythe & Dibden recently was just what I needed after leaving. Officially retired.”
And former managers and teammates have paid tribute to the talismanic defender on social media.
Ex-Bees boss Trevor Senior said: “It was a pleasure working with you Ryan. One of those players on the pitch I knew I could rely on.”
Former assistant Paddy Behan added: “Sorry to hear this Ryan. A fantastic player (and) leader! A proper Western League player who should and who will be remembered as a top player for many years!”
Mark ‘Reggie’ Carter, another former coach of Hayter, said: “Definitely take you to the trenches with me. You (were) a pleasure to manage and epitomised what a captain was all about. Legend.”
Former teammate Tony Cunningham said: “Enjoyed the years we played together and always looked forward to the battles we had against each other.
“(Probably) already been said but the Bees could do with a player like you right now.”
Chris Senior said: “One of the best I’ve played alongside and was lucky enough to do so for so long!”
And Hythe ace Aaron Dunne added: “Sorry to hear this mate! Was good to see you give it a go again and a short but sweet pleasure to share a pitch with (you).”
Bridport have another bye weekend but return to action at home to Cullompton Rangers on Tuesday (7.45pm).
