Fire crews from Beaminster, Crewkerne and Bridport Fire Station were called to the incident shortly before 5.30pm yesterday (August 11).
A spokesperson for Bridport Fire Station said: “Bridport's 4x4 appliance and water carrier were mobilised as part of an assistance message to assist Beaminster Fire Station and Crewkerne Fire Station with a combine harvester on fire near Birdsmoor Gate.
“The fire had spread to standing crop and the hedgerow.
“Crews used multiple hose reel jets, CAFS (foam) main lines, 2 breathing apparatus wearers, beaters and small tools to extinguish the fire.
“The fire severity alert is now RED which means we need everyone to take extra care by not having any campfires or bonfires and only BBQ at home keeping it away from dry vegetation, sheds & fences.
“We've also seen a big increase in field and agricultural fires over the last week. With an amber weather warning in place for significant heat and a red warning for fires, please please please consider the fire risk when you're out in the countryside.”
