A six day fashion revolution is coming to Bridport with the aim of highlighting the impact that the global fashion industry has on the environment.
‘Bridport Fashion Revolution’ is a continuation of a campaign that started in 2020 before being interrupted by the pandemic.
Two years on and with plans re-booted, the campaign returns with events mainly based at the Lyric Theatre, Barrack Street.
‘Bridport Fashion Revolution’ will kickstart on Saturday (July 30) with a ‘Stitch It Don’t Ditch It’ flash mob at 1.30pm on Buckydoo Square. That’s followed by a workshop at the Lyric Theatre on how to reuse materials to create sustainable clothing and accessories. The opening day rounds off with a glass of bubbly and two guest speakers on sustainable fashion – also at the Lyric Theatre from 7.30pm.

A spokesperson for Bridport Fashion Revolution said: “Over our six we are hoping, via our speakers and experts, to show other ways in which we can still both enjoy our clothes and look good while saving our pennies too.
“These ideas can be summed up in a few brief words - Re-think, Repair, Re-purpose, Re-claim, Re-invent, and Re-size. Then come the ‘s’ words – Share and Swap so that we can again fall in love with our clothes then finally pass them on to charity or others, and save them from landfill.”
The revolution will culminate in a pre-loved and vintage market - running from 1pm to 6pm at the Lyric Theatre on Thursday, August 4.

The ‘grand finale’ is billed as an opportunity for visitors to shop sustainably with, partners, Style Vintage UK, Tina’s Retro Clothing and The Ukrainian Clothes Bank.
A spokesperson said: “A family in the western world disposes of an average of 30 kg of clothing each year. Only 15% is recycled or donated, and the rest goes to waste. Then there’s the problem of fabric. For instance two billion pairs of jeans are produced annually, each pair requiring 7,000 litres of water, not to mention the chemicals and fertilisers for the cotton used which all damage the natural world.”
There are events and workshops across the six days – with details available via the Bridport Fashion Revolution Facebook page.
