A SIGNIFICANT fire was extinguished from the inside of an oak tree yesterday after it was believed to have been started deliberately.
Firefighters from Bridport Fire Station were called to the incident in a field near North Mills Road on Wednesday (July 20) around 6pm
A spokesperson for Bridport Fire Station said: “One pump mobilised to a tree on fire in a field near North Mills Road. On arrival crews found an oak tree with a significant fire within the main hollowed out trunk. The fire was extinguished using one hose reel jet and a triple extension ladder.
"The cause is believed to be deliberate.
"Please be vigilant, if you see a fire report it immediately by dialling 999. If you see any suspicious behaviour dial 101."
