A MEMORIAL concert in honour of a local figure and raising money for good causes is being held in Bridport.
It's all in honour of local dad Robert (Bill) Carr, a well-loved community figure who died on April 30 aged 77.
The concert, to be held on a patch of land at Wellfields Drive, Bradpole, close to Mr Carr's home, is organised by his good friend Jeff Latter, who first met him in the early 2000s at a barbecue where they hit it off talking about sport.
Mr Latter plays drums in The Silver Lining Band which will be performing 50s and 60s numbers at the event. The event is this Sunday, June 26 from 2pm-5pm.
All are welcome to bring their own food and drink, enjoy the open air music, donate to good causes and talk to Mr Carr's friends and family about him.
The event is supporting the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, Macmillan Cancer Support and Julia's House, with a raffle for Weldmar Hospicecare. Donations on the day are encouraged.
Mr Carr, who worked as a service engineer, had lived in Bridport with his partner Elaine for the past 30 years. He spent much of his time working in the community to help out and fix problems, friends said.
Mr Latter said: "Bill was a genuinely helpful person to anyone who needed it, he helped many people in Bridport with so many different things.
"During the pandemic he would help people who couldn't get out and about, doing their shopping and walking their dogs.
"Once I heard of someone stressing over getting their electric shower fixed, so I called Bill and by the end of the day the shower was up and running. He was always helping by doing things like that.
"He was a great man and helped everyone around here, so we wanted to thank him and celebrate his life at the event."
Peter Pinker, a Bridport resident who was often helped by Bill said: "He was a great old boy, everybody's friend who liked to make jokes and we are so sad he is gone."
