BRIDPORT will face Middlezoy Rovers one week later than expected, the Bridport News understands.

Their pre-season friendly was originally scheduled for tomorrow (7pm) but will now be contested on Friday, July 1.

Bridport boss Edgar Marcu is relishing the opportunity to put his coaching stamp on the Bees this season.

Marcu is working towards his full UEFA qualifications and this season takes charge of his first full campaign at Bridport, succeeding Rob Marquis.

The Romanian has already agreed terms with 25 players – including midfielder and countryman Alexandru Mirescu, Hong Kong star Yang Bosley Yu, Yeovil Under-18 talents Callum Smalley and Josh John plus Albanian star Andri Qosja.

Bridport fans will now have to wait an extra week for their first chance to see the fruits of Marcu’s labour.

But Marcu is hoping he can both improve his squad and learn from them as the season goes on.

He told the Bridport News: “The results and football will definitely talk but it’s a massive opportunity, there’s nothing to hide.

“I’m going to build that team and they will improve me, so it’s a chance for both of us to improve.

“I’m going to use them to improve myself as a coach and manager and they will use me to get the job done. It’s fantastic and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Marcu also expressed his satisfaction with his summer business, adding: “I’m really pleased because in a short time I bring in good players and create a good habit for the remaining players.

“I’m looking forward to the new season now – this is what happens when you have passion for something. For me, football is the number one thing in my life.”
