Excitement is growing ahead of Beaminster Horticultural Society’s Summer Show – the highlight of the society’s annual calendar.
The event takes place on Saturday, August 13 in the Public Hall in Fleet Street, Beaminster from 2pm.
Show secretary Hayley Skelton said: “The show is a great opportunity for its members and their families to enter into healthy competition in a variety of classes designed to appeal to and encourage a range of interests. For example: gardening, hobby and floral art, baking and preserve making, amateur photography and even home gin making! The six classes in the children’s section also encourage creativity in ages up to 16 years.”
The show also includes some Platinum Jubilee-themed classes.
The society is grateful to Symonds & Sampson for their sponsorship of the show, and in particular the Best in Show competition.
Once all exhibits are in place on the morning of the show, local experts will begin judging. The event opens to the public from 2pm, with the winners revealed. Trophies will be presented at 4pm by society president Ken Hunt. Tea, coffee, and a selection of homemade cakes will be available. Admission is £1 per person.
This year, exhibiting is for members and their families only. The closing date for entry forms is August 10 (2pm), with no charge to enter exhibits. The Best in Garden competition and the Allotment Cup will run in conjunction with the Summer Show. The deadline for these entry forms was May 31.
Entry forms are available via email, or hard copy for members to collect at the society’s monthly meetings, on the third Tuesday each month at 7.30pm in Beaminster’s Public Hall. Interesting talks and presentations run throughout the year, with plans to arrange some excursions currently under review. New members are always welcome.
