A CAMPAIGN celebrating the "best of Bridport" is to launch.
The Totally Locally initiative is shining a spotlight on independent businesses and the importance of shopping local. The focus for the ‘Magic Tenner’ campaign is to highlight how spending £10 grows as it moves around the town and injects extra cash into the local economy.
Bridport’s Magic Tenner will run from May 28 to July 30: ten weeks in which Totally Locally will drive community engagement with the campaign through a number of promotions.
Bridport follows in the footsteps of other towns around the country who have embraced the Totally Locally campaign in a bid to revitalize town centres and local economies.
Research from The New Economics Foundation suggests that for every £10 spent in a shop, the amount of money going back into the local economy can be as much as £50. They say that around 80% of each transaction from that initial £10 goes back into the local economy.
The Magic Tenner Campaign helps businesses to show just how many local suppliers they have with simple posters, banners and messages and encourages all local, independent businesses to get involved – whether they are on the high street or not.
Bridport businesses are backing the campaign which is aimed at starting ongoing conversations about shopping local and supporting the immediate area.
More than 50 businesses from Bridport have signed up to take part and weekly posters will be distributed with six new businesses featured every week. The team at Totally Locally will be producing a shopping map with individual businesses asked to support one another by making recommendations and highlight the best of Bridport.
Kim Squirrell, Totally Locally team member, said: “The Magic Tenner is a brilliant opportunity to find out more about your local retailers and the other local businesses that supply them with services or goods.
"As with all our campaigns it’s about starting a conversation about what a healthy local economy looks like and what we can do to ensure Bridport continues to be a vibrant and distinctive place to live."
Totally Locally Bridport are inviting all local independents to join, just email totallylocalllybridport@gmail.com for more information. Or call Roy on 07429 102645
