POLICE are urging the public across Dorset to dispose of unwanted knives properly.
It follows Operation Sceptre, a national campaign which takes place twice a year, supporting the work police carry out all year round to ensure residents are safe from knife crime in their community.
Police are now directing the public to take any unwanted knives to waste and recycling - and off the streets.
A spokesman from Dorset Police said: "You can dispose of unwanted knives at your local recycling or household waste centre.
"It's important to make sure they are safely packaged.
"Bin it and make Dorset streets safer.
"If you would like to report any information about knife crime or people who carry them, contact police on 101."
Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on: www.crimestoppers-uk.org. In an emergency, always call 999.
