I am a local resident and a keen cyclist. I enjoy cycling on the lanes around the beautiful Bridport area and surrounding villages, especially at this time of year.
Unfortunately, although the vast majority of drivers take care when passing cyclists a few do not. I have on a number of occasions had some near misses when cars have overtaken without leaving enough space for safety.
I am also concerned that many of the drivers are elderly and I suspect that they are driving illegally. It is mandatory for all over 70s to apply for a new driving licence and reapply every three years.
I wonder how many of the public are aware of this and how many are driving illegally and risking the lives of other road users as a result.
