POLICE across Dorset are warning the public to not leave dogs in cars as summer approaches.
Dog owners are being urged to consider the health and safety of their pet when taking it out during the daytime.
It is common for dog owners to leave their pet in the car under a shaded area or with a window slightly open, but the police are urging to not following these customs.
A spokesman from Dorset Police said: "Never leave your dog in a car on a warm day.
"You may feel that it is okay to leave your dog in a car that is parked in shade or with the windows are open, but a dog can quickly overheat when left in a car.
"Please consider your furry friend if you are taking them out in the car."
If a dog is spotted in a car on a warm day, call 999.
