A fun run for Ukraine is to take place with children of all ages being encouraged to take part in the fundraiser.
The run, organised by Bridport Ladies Circle, will take place at St Mary’s Field between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday, May 7.
Lucinda Steele, chair of Bridport Ladies Circle, announced the fundraising initiative saying: “We thought it would be nice for our children to help the children of Ukraine who are obviously going through something quite traumatic at the moment.”
Children of all ages can get involved by skipping, running or walking along the route with a £1 entry fee going towards Unicef’s Ukraine response.
Unicef is working to scale up their life-saving support for children and their families caught up in the conflict and, by taking part, the children of Bridport will be supporting the children of Ukraine.
Alongside the fun run will be a raffle and a small fete with games for all the family. Prizes up for grabs include a £50 Amazon voucher, three month membership to Bridport Leisure Centre and an MOT voucher from Greig and Allen Garage.
The fun run is split into two categories with 3-6 year olds tackling a 1.5km run whilst 7-15 year olds take on 2.5km of the field. So far the event has received a warm reception with Lucinda saying more than 100 people had registered their interest on Facebook with more expected as the big day fast approaches.
Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each group but organisers were keen to stress the fun part of the fundraiser. Lucinda said: “it’s not about being competitive but about having fun and raising some money.”
Bridport Ladies Circle, the organisers of the event, are a group of local women ‘all from different backgrounds and walks of life’ with the motto ‘fun, friendship and fundraising’. The upcoming fun run is the first of a number of planned fundraisers for a number of charitable causes and has been supported by Bridport Town Council: local businesses that have contributed to organising the event include Footeprints, West Dorset Leisure and Morrisons.
